The Body Glove is a textured two-part case. One piece surrounds but does not cover the screen, and does not provide screen protection. The second piece clips onto the keyboard and covers the back of the keyboard. This back case provides precisely fit openings for the speaker, camera lens, camera switch, USB charger, headset, and on/off button. At this time (November 2009), the Body Glove is available only in black.

Aware of my alarming tendency to drop small electronic products, I decided not to leave the Verizon store without a protective case. Case choices without belt clips were limited at the Verizon store: the Body Glove and a few snap-on silicone protectors. I prefer brightly colored cases so that my devices are easy to find. However, the colorful silicone cases seemed expensive, slippery, and flimsy. In contrast, the Body Glove felt substantial and well-made. For my needs, color took second place to texture and apparent quality.

It is clear that the case is not going to slide or slip once it is fit onto the Droid, but the tight fit makes the first installation a bit of a challenge. The Body Glove can be installed with or without a belt clip. I elected not to use the clip, and Body Glove provides a clever “plug” that fits nicely into the hole that the clip requires at the back of the case.

People are very interested in the Droid, and it gets handed around on a regular basis. The Body Glove provides an excellent gripping texture, and no one has dropped it (including me). While the Body Glove won’t keep the Droid from sliding off of a leather car seat, it helps it stay put when placed on a fabric surface. At the same time, The Glove doesn’t keep the Droid from slipping easily in or out of a backpack or laptop bag.

    There are some drawbacks:

    * It’s a little expensive at $30.00, but there is a dearth of competitors. It also appears to be of good quality.

    * The keyboard cover must be removed in order to reach the battery compartment. This is a bit incovenient as the relatively new Droid sometimes requires a reboot via the battery.

    * The case is substantial, and adds to the Droid’s already considerable bulk.

    * As previously stated – it can only be purchased in black.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with the Body Glove’s look, feel, and performance. Would I buy it again? Yes, in fact I’ve already bought another for the second Droid we added to our contract.

  2. Nice feel, slightly rubberrized. I like the fact the case has an optional belt clip. But two problems make this case a stinker…

My main issue is that the tabs are thick enough to cause rubbing on the slide mechanism. So when you slide the keyboard out, there is resistance and the case is opening up the gap between the top and bottom. Unfortunately motorola engineers didn’t add tab slots for cases on the top, so I don’t see how there’s a way around this. But I felt like using this case over time would loosen the top sliding portion of the droid.

Second – getting the case off clean requires inserting something between the case and the droid. I had to use a knife, and left one small scratch. Next time I’d try something that won’t scratch, like a credit card.

Most of the other case systems have awful reviews. If you don’t have a dock, and don’t worry about the slide, then this could be a decent case for you. I’m going to look for a sleeve/leather-like case. Something to protect the device in my pocket/bag, but from which I can easily remove the device.

  3. When I first got the case, I was really happy with it. It really secures the phone, gives it a heavier, more secure feel, and I felt better about shoving the phone in my pocket without worrying about it. It also alleviated the problem I was having with the droid’s battery cover coming off in my pocket which was very annoying. There are also nice cutouts for the speaker, camera, charger, etc, and the phone slides open and closed with no problem. I really liked it at first.

Since then, though, there are two problems that are really bothering me about it.

First, it’s very hard to get off and on. I’ve had to take the back cover off to reset my phone a couple of times during lock ups, and the braces that snap around the phone are *so* tight, that they can slide in to the cracks of the phone itself causing the plastic of the phone to split apart and nearly tear the phone open. That was terrifying.

Secondly, it’s not compatible with the multimedia dock. So you have to take the stupid thing off and on whenever you want to dock your phone. That. Sucks. Coupled with the problem above, you have a nightmare scenario. Not only do I feel like I’m going to break my phone whenever I try to take the case off, but I HAVE to take the case off to dock it. UGH.

I am looking for a replacement case that I don’t have to remove to dock.

This thing puts a death grip on your DROID. So much in fact that it splits the plastic if you are not careful.

I have dry hands so I need a case with some tackiness especially with such an expensive phone as the Droid. I tried the plastic/leather case from Verizon but it was still too slippery. The body glove allows good gripping without being TOO tacky which interferes with the phone going in and out of your pocket. The body glove on the left side of the touchscreen is not fully attached because of the slide out keyboard but that is acceptable. Also the case doesn’t seem to protect around the screen quite as well as the bottom and sides but that is also acceptable. Rugged case is very good quality. Case looks nice, better than in the pictures.
