Start looking for new work. You may be able to pursue the promised wage thing, but only if you have something in writing or a witness willing to say that you had been promised more.
Bait and switch is actually pretty common. THe job advertised is nice, prestigous and easy. tHe job given isn’t. It happened to me once. I interviewed for the position of nigh tmamager at this hotel, then the day I sowed up to start, they handed me a maid’s smock and told me that the person who’s job I was hired for decided not to quit and they wer short of maids. I asked around and found out that half the maids they had werehired the same way.
I messed up a bunch of rooms, hid the cleaning cart and left.
If you can afford it, it might be good to step back and look at your career from a global point of view so you can make better decisions.
A job is like a tent; it’s temporary, and you can’t build anything on it.
A career is like a big building, even a castle; to build it, you need to plan and carefully lay the foundations.
Whether you change your job or not, does not matter much, I think, in the long term. You would just leave one tent and go to another tent.
But whether you take this opportunity to think about your career and plan it out carefully, will make a huge difference in your life, I believe.
An ideal career is made up of four critical elements: talent, passion, meaning and reward.
Talent is what you do better than other people.
Passion is your emotional connection to your work, it’s what makes you feel alive, it’s what you love to do and find joy in.
Meaning is the sense that your work is important and contributes to a better community, a better quality of life for others, a better society.
Reward is simply the financial compensation you’re getting as well as all the resources you have access to.
No matter what career you choose, there is always a trade-off between these four key elements. For example, in some careers or jobs, you might make more money but feel less joy; you may feel you contribute more to society, but you feel less passionate about your work; you may feel you get to develop your unique talent, but you’re not making a lot of money.
The key is to understand what trade-offs you are making, and coming to terms with them.
Good luck!
Yes.. I would say find something else. As you see here, you can either work hard for you money (and still not make it) or, you can have your money work hard for you. In school we’re taught how to be good employees. They don’t teach us how money works or how to see an opportunity. Good luck on your decision. Feel free to contact me any questions. -Erik.
